THE Approach

As a lead designer embedded with Agile software development teams, I was part of the end to end doing upfront discovery, partnering with researchers, uncovering user needs, create service design blueprints and journeys, QA and delivering final designs for production. My activities included the following:

  • Facilitate weekly workshops with the product owners and engineering teams.

  • Execute design solutions balancing business requirements with technical limitations of the platform.

  • Collaborate with the Design System team for necessary components, capabilities, and requirements.

  • Leverage user research, mindsets, and modern design patterns to increase usability.

  • Produce low fidelity concept designs, user flows, wireframes, and annotated documentation for developers and visual designers.

  • Present new designs to the team of product managers, engineers, analysts and product stakeholders.

Background

Duck Creek’s applications for property and casualty insurance carriers and their agents had not gone through significant changes in almost 5+ years, running on older technology and database structure. The company prioritized building an experience design team to coincide with software development teams. The first of the products to redesign were Agent Portal and Claims.

GOALS

Introduce and lead user experience work to drive the design of Duck Creek’s new product offering, Digital Engagement, transforming and improving efficiency of insurance agents.

MY ROLE + TASKS

Lead UX, product design, interaction, strategy, and architecture, and collaborate with cross functional teams within research, product, and engineering.
